Maria Cangiano talks Tango
Interview to Culture Sonar Magazine
Tango singer Maria Cangiano’s new album of Astor Piazzolla songs, Renacere, has been the recipient of some seriously high praise. In reference to her new LP, LatinJazzNet.com wrote “Miss Cangiano seems to have succeeded in making probably the best recording of Piazzolla yet” while New York Music Daily states Cangiano and her ensemble “do justice to Piazzolla’s dedication to the cutting edge.” With upcoming gigs at Joe’s Pub in NYC and a European tour ahead, you don’t have to go to South America to see her.
PRESS ON RENACERE: PIAZZOLLA X CANGIANO
Cangiano seems to have succeeded in making probably the best recording of Piazzolla yet (...)there is evidence of an uncommonly gifted vocalist all over this record, and more than anything else, there is evidence of a bold, uncompromising artist. What seems to stand out just as much as anything else in terms of “Piazzolla-reinvention” on this incredible recording is how magically Miss Cangiano has transformed traditional Argentinean dance forms with such natural eloquence and grace, Raul da Gama, Latin Jazz Network, August, 2018
“Spellbinding Singer Maria Cangiano’s New Album Rescues Undiscovered Piazzolla Treasures From Obscurity Maria Cangiano and Astor Piazzolla share Italian heritage as well as passion for taking tango to new and transcendent places...As rich and evocative as the playing on this album is, it would be even more of a treat to hear more of Cangiano`s otherworldly, evocative voice here, she is sort of Carol Lipnik of Nuevo Tango ” New York Music daily, 2017
